Flamenco
Flamenco is the typical and genuine music of Andalusia. It expresses sorrows amd happiness and there are different styles called “palos”.
It seems that the origins start with the muslim, jewish and christian culture and, of course, gipsy influence. There are many events related to flamenco throughout the year. Every three years in May, the National flamenco contest is held in Córdoba. In July we find the Guitar Festival, also in Córdoba. It is also worth mentioning that, being the popular music of Andalusia, all events will be
accompanied by it.
A typical place to visit is a “tablao flamenco“, like a mixture of restaurant and theatre, where flamenco music is played and danced. Many of these places are especially dedicated to the tourists and do not offer too much quality regarding the musicians and dancers although it is always a wonderful esxperience making the audience participate in the event. If you have the possibility do not miss the opportunity to visit such a show.
If you want to go to a more serious show, probably with less tourists and more Andalusians in the audience, maybe the best thing is to ask in the tourist office.
